When Worlds Collide (Collude?)
It's pretty interesting how individual musical journeys can bring a band together.
Sam Steinig (Vocals, Organ, PianoBass)
Andi Andrea (Guitar, Vocals)
Kat Daville (Drums, Vocals)
Back in 1992, Sam Steinig debuted Mondo Topless on Halloween night. Armed with his trusty Vox Continental organ, a sneer and a growl, he proceeded to guide his compatriots through the morass of garage punk for... well, way too long. Albums on Get Hip and Dionysus and domestic and European tours cemented their... um, legacy such as it is. Switching gears, ditching the Vox and lugging around a Hammond M3, he formed The GTVs, a tasty mix of Booker T & The MGs and Small Faces. Singles, an album and more touring, tons and tons of fun, but it was time to hang up that particular venture (didn't wanna drag it on too long; go out on top, haha). Back to 1993... while Mondo Topless was still a baby band, Andi Andrea was contemplating the beginnings her own band in Stuttgart, Germany of all places after cutting her teeth in LA punk bands like The Creamers. After moving back to LA she found some like-minded punks, christened her new creation Snap-Her, and went about recording and touring relentlessly. Oh, and she also was part of Nina Hagen's touring band at this time, too. Oh, the stories! Snap-Her unleashed slabs on Damaged Goods (UK) and New Red Archives and left a nice scar down the side of the planet before hanging it up. Fast-forward to 2019 or thereabouts. As Sam was contemplating his post-GTVs future, Andi contacted him (on Facebook, naturally) wondering if he knew anybody looking for a guitarist. "As a matter of fact..." he says, as his pea-brain lightbulb goes "ding!" He wanted to form a stripped-down 3-piece garage/punk combo, with a guitarist, a drummer, and himself on the Vox Jaguar organ (and left-hand bass, Ray Manzarek-style). He recruited Oya Olatur from Delaware's Kitty Rotten on drums, named this monstrosity Kiss Boom Bah and off they went. Played a bunch of shows, went into Green Rock Laboratories (Jamie and Mike from St. James The Apostles), and recorded their debut 7" Single (Out of Our Tree b/w Marilyn a-Go-Go) on Sweet Time (awesome label from down in New Orleans) and set out to conquer the world. Covid said no to that. Post-Covid, they bid a sad but fond farewell to Oya and recruited the awesome, amazing, powerful Kat Daville on the tubs. Kat has, like, real pro music creds. Like she's endorsed by drum manufacturers and stuff. Hailing from Central Jersey by way of... Texas(?) she cut her teeth in the crazy world of NYC HC bands. I think Andi found her on Facebook too, haha. Anyhoo, like I said at the top - individual musical journeys bringing a band together. Check 'em out.
